Direct primary care Let’s build a better
model of healthcare

Imagine a healthcare model where the relationship between provider and patient is built on trust, open communication, and access—without inflated costs, administrative hurdles, and the intrusion of insurance companies.

The direct primary care (DPC) model gives family physicians and nurse practitioners a meaningful alternative to fee-for-service insurance billing, typically by charging patients a monthly, quarterly, or annual fee. This fee covers all or most primary care services, including clinical and laboratory services, consultative services, care coordination, and comprehensive care management.

Benefits for Providers

DPC allows family physicians or advanced practice nurses to care for the whole person while reducing the overhead and negative incentives associated with fee-for-service, third-party-payer billing. Benefits of DPC to providers include:

  • More time with patients
  • Better work/life balance
  • Simplified revenue structure
  • Decreased practice overhead
  • Reduced administrative burden
  • Standard weekly schedule and hours

Benefits for Patients

Patients of DPC providers see benefits too, such as:

  • Better health outcomes - This delivery model provides better access to physicians, empowers an authentic therapeutic relationship, and encourages comprehensive patient care.
  • Lower costs - Patients can expect affordable, transparent costs based on a periodic overall flat rate (i.e. membership or subscription). There are no third parties or Fee-for-Service billing (“FFS”) to inflate costs. Most DPC memberships/subscriptions cost less than the average cell phone bill.
  • Enhanced patient experience - Patients receive unrestricted access to their healthcare provider, report little to no wait time, and experience longer appointments (in person, virtually, or by phone).

Get to know us EBO MD: Southeast Missouri’s
Only Direct Primary Care Practice

EBO MD is the only pure direct primary care practice in Southeast Missouri and one of more than 1,000 DPC practices in the nation. Cape Girardeau is a regional healthcare hub, and EBO MD has long-established roots and ties to some of the area’s most respected physicians.

Founded in 1963 by Dr. Thomas C. Sparkman, the practice operated under his leadership until 2003, when he sold it to Anthony Keele, MD, and Lori Moyers, DO, who established Cape Family Practice.

In November 2016, Tony Thompson and Josh Stephens formed EBO MD, LLC. Building on their experiences and healthcare industry knowledge, they introduced the first and only true DPC model to the area.

In October 2017, EBO MD acquired Cape Family Practice from Dr. Keele and Dr. Moyers, assuring the continuation of the practice and offering a new healthcare model for Southeast Missouri’s residents.

Today, EBO MD has four physician providers and seven nurse practitioners in addition to a team of nurses, medical assistants, techs and support staff who care for thousands of patients throughout the region.  We have clinics in four communities: Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Fredericktown and Poplar Bluff. Our providers and staff enjoy a collaborative work environment, competitive salaries and benefits package, and a standard 8-to-5 weekday schedule without night shift, on-call schedules, or holiday hours.
