Our Services Rapid Strep Test
A rapid strep test involves a quick throat swab that can, within minutes, show the presence of group A streptococcus bacteria that causes strep throat and other infections such as scarlet fever, abscesses and pneumonia. Strep throat is a bacterial infection that affects the back of the throat and the tonsils, which become irritated and swollen, causing a sore throat that’s especially painful when swallowing. If the test is positive, antibiotics can be prescribed to treat this infection.
EBO MD uses a rapid strep test after a sore throat has been detected. Strep can also cause the following symptoms:
- A fever of 101F or higher
- Res, swollen tonsils
- Pain when swallowing
- White patches in the throat
- Swollen and/or tender lymph nodes at the front of your neck
- Tiny red spots on the roof of your mouth
- Appetite loss
- Body aches
- Nausea and/or vomiting
Like other infections, strep throat spreads through close contact. When people who are sick cough or sneeze, they release droplets that hold the bacteria into the air. You can infect yourself if you touch something a person with strep throat has touched or coughed/sneezed on then touch your eyes, mouth or nose with that hand. This infection is most common among teens and children, but adults can get it as well.
